How clean is your desk?

Your desk is your home away from home, you spend up to 75% of your working week sitting at it, you may even eat your meals there, but is it clean? According to Professor Charles Gerba the answer is no. (You can go and wash your hands before reading the rest of this if you like…) Desk equipment that isn’t regularly cleaned harbour millions of potentially harmful bacteria.  According to Gerba’s study the main offender is the phone; this seemingly innocent device can be home to more than 25,127 microbes per square inch – which get transferred to your face every time you use it. (To give some perspective, the average toilet seat harbours 49 microbes per square inch…) How does this happen?
